Rotary Club of Des Moines and Club Members Recognized at City Council

On November 18th, the City Council of Des Moines presented three awards and showcased the Rotary Club of Des Moines in a very significant way.

First, Mayor Robert Sheckler presented a Lifetime Spirit of Des Moines Award to our long time club member, Clark Snure. The Mayor cited Clark’s many contributions including improved association, fire and water district, and governmental rules and processes, and leadership in local organizations over more than fifty years, showing an extraordinary commitment to the community throughout that time. The first Annual Individual Award went to another Rotarian, Wayne Corey. As Mr. Farmer’s Market, a Medic One and Fire Systems advocate, his work with Elder Care as well as his deep commitment to Rotary, Wayne certainly merits recognition as one with the desired Spirit of Des Moines.

In presenting the inaugural “Spirit of Des Moines” award, Mayor Sheckler recognized the Rotary Club of Des Moines as clearly demonstrating the “Spirit of Des Moines” in a sustained manner. He cited a long list of Club contributions to the city and its citizens.  This award recognizes and rewards individuals and organizations who best display sustained commitment to the community of Des Moines.
