June 4th is Opening Day for the Des Moines Farmers Market!

Opening day is fast approaching and the Des Moines Farmers Market is poised to start its six season. Coming off its most successful season to date, the market is looking to be bigger and more diversified than ever.  Returning will be most all of the vendors from last year along with plenty of new ones.  Among them is an organic farm from Snohomish that will be selling fresh lamb, pork, chickens and eggs.  Among the new prepared food vendors is local business owner, Marshall Hansen, with his portable wood fired pizza oven. Yummy goodness in two minutes!

June 4th opening day will start with a special presentation to manager Rikki Marohl for being named 2010 Market Manager of the year for the State of Washington. Lots of special activities will take place as well, including arts and craft projects for kids. One of the most unique displays will be the “truck farm” with its bed planted full of veggies.
So grab your shopping bag, or pick up one at the information booth, and get shopping! “Eating Local” is the Green thing to do because it supports your local small farmer and helps to preserve farm land from being paved over. Besides “when it’s fresh, it’s already gourmet.”
Look for more market updates during the season on your Rotary Blog, The Waterland Blog, as well as markets sites www.DMFM.org andFacebook.  You can also follow them on their new Twitter account!
