Rotary Club Kiosk Installed at Des Moines Marina

Asst. City Manager, Lorri Ericson; Michael Allan; City Manager, Tony Piasecki; and Wayne Corey
The kiosk donated by the Rotary Club of Des Moines was installed on Wednesday, July 13th,  at the Des Moines Marina.

The project began as the Rotary Club of Des Moines approached the 50th year of their  Rotary charter. The club, under the leadership of then-president, Dan Johnson,  decided to do something to commemorate this half-century of service to the community and came up with the idea of presenting the city with a "legacy gift".  Several club meetings were devoted to identifying possible projects, evaluating and ranking each, and then selecting the one that resonated with members. Out of this process, the kiosk project was born.

Rotarian, Michael Allan, and former club member, Jane Ipsen, were chosen to champion the project and worked with Rotarian, Dave Loft, and Powell Homes to construct the kiosk.  Steve Goegebuer outfitted the kiosk with the electronics.

The Des Moines Marina was chosen as the site for the kiosk because it is one the city’s most-visited location. The four sides of the kiosk will be available to the City, community organizations and perhaps to local businesses for the display of information about what’s going on in the city. Three of the four panels will be “bulletin boards” for posters, flyers and maps. The fourth will display a TV screen with a rolling loop of information about the city.

The kiosk will be gifted to the City of Des Moines on Friday, July 22nd, during the Grand Re-Opening of the Marina.
